Is Calvin Harris the latest addition to the Tropical House genre?

DISCLAIMER: The following blog post is completely my opinion. I understand other people may have different opinions about this topic, this is just how I feel. It seems that after "This Is What You Came For (feat. Rihanna), Calvin Harris' music took a turn sound wise. It seems he is no longer producing the stereotypical electronic rave music everyone is used to. He is taking a tip or two from music sensation Kygo and following the tropical house genre of music. If you dont know what that is, basically it's still electronic music, but it has more of a tropical beat to it. I for one only like particular tracks off this type of genre. Songs such as "Firestone" and "Oasis" by Kygo. Calvin Harris' latest release, "Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1" was sort of a disappointment for me. He was hyping the album too much for my taste. In past experiences with artists hyping their album too much never ends well. Expectations exceed reality and the finished product is never enough. In this instance, I think ever since "Motion", his last record, artists noticed him and wanted to work with him. He does not have a single track by himself in "Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1." That to me is very disappointing. Songs like "Slow Acid" and "Summer" were one of my favorite tracks in 2014. Now if i'm being honest, I have only listened to the album in it's entirety twice. Don't get me wrong, I am still a big fan of Calvin Harris, but his latest music just wasn't what I was looking for in the era of Flume and Martin Garrix.

Anyways, dont take it from me. You should still give Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 a chance. Listen to the album below!

Listen to one of his better tracks "Pray to God (Feat. HAIM)!
