Kesha is back, but it's not Kes$a anymore.
As a reminder, Kesha Rose Sebert still has 2 albums on her legally bound contract attached with Sony, and yes that includes Dr. Luke. This song, Praying, being her "only ballad" that she has ever performed, is one of the most emotionally timeless records of this decade. Interpret is as you might, but this song is for everyone. In her interview with The Zach Sang Show,Kesha confessed she has been crying these past few days. However, they are happy tears. This being that she believed that there was a time in her life where she really thought she was finished. Her humanity was taken away from her, but she prospered. All the positivity is what brought this upcoming album "Rainbow" to life. This song "Praying" is hoped to be the start of a new chapter in her life. Writing this album Kesha says, was very therapeutic. One of the hardest lyrics she had to write on "Praying" was "..Sometimes I pray for you at night. This has been "...one of the hardest parts growing up" for her. Learning to forgive is truly the message in this ballad. Holding grudges and wishing evil upon people is not going to affect the other person, but you. Bringing that negative energy into your life is what causes depression and addictive problems. Of course it's not easy for her or even yourself to wish happiness on those who have hurt you, but in the end it is the right thing to do. Matthew 6:14 says "For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you." I think this verse truly embodies the message in the song. In a way that you are being so self-less that you are being selfish. What I mean by that is, you care so much about yourself that you are willing to forgive those who have wronged you in order to better your life. Anyways, let's get back to the song. The song is Kesha's first song since the legal battle with Lukasz Gottwald aka Dr. Luke. With these very serious allegations that Dr. Luke not only drugged her but sexually and verbally abused her. This brought the #FreeKesha to become a movement to try and free Kesha from this horrible time in her life. As you may recall, Kesha dropped the lawsuit due to the fact that it was too mentally draining and she wanted to focus on herself for the time being. Now that she's back, she brings a powerful message with her.
Kesha's 3rd album Rainbow comes out August 11, 2017.
